The story of Kashmir’s most celebrated voice is coming alive on screen. ‘Songs of Paradise’, a much-awaited film starring Saba Azad and Soni Razdan, will premiere on Prime Video on August 29, 2025.
The film takes inspiration from the extraordinary life of Padma Shri awardee Raj Begum, known lovingly as the ‘Melody Queen of Kashmir’.

Raj Begum was a symbol of courage in a time when women were discouraged from stepping into the spotlight. She became the first female voice on Radio Kashmir and later, a cultural icon. She gave generations of Kashmiri women the courage to dream.
The film presents Raj Begum’s journey through two time periods. Saba Azad plays the younger Raj, capturing her early struggles and rise to fame, while Soni Razdan portrays her later years, reflecting on her life and legacy.
Joining them are Zain Khan Durrani, Sheeba Chaddha, Taaruk Raina, and Lillete Dubey.
Directed by Danish Renzu, the film paints a deeply emotional picture of a woman who refused to stay silent. Renzu explained, “‘Songs of Paradise’ is a heartfelt tribute to Padma Shri Raj Begum, the first female voice at Radio Kashmir. It tells the story of her music and legacy. It also talks of her grit at a time when women were bound by restrictions. She dared to dream when dreaming was a taboo.”
Producer Ritesh Sidhwani of Excel Entertainment described it as “the timeless tale of a champion and torchbearer for artists from the culturally rich land of Kashmir. Her voice made her the pride of the region and continues to inspire generations.”
He also highlighted the collaboration with Prime Video. He called it the perfect platform to bring Raj Begum’s legacy to global audiences.
‘Songs of Paradise’ is presentation of Excel Entertainment and joint production of Apple Tree Pictures Production and Renzu Films Production.
